Voice Compatible Devices

TomTom:
All TomTom devices connected with a standard USB cable running software version 5.0 or higher.

Garmin:
All Garmin nüvi models in the following series: 200, 500, 700, 800, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1600, 2200, 2300, 3700, 5000, nüvifone G60, Garminfone.

Why does my order status say "Pending" in my account?

Once you make your purchase your voices are immediately ready to download. Even though your voice status says "Pending" you can still download your voice(s). Login to your account at NavTones and go to 'My Downloadable Products' on the left-hand side of the screen to download.

Updating the System Software on your Garmin

(You need to do this before you download your new voice onto your device.)

  • Updating the software is very simple and free with Garmin's WebUpdater available here.
  • Once you have updated your software, you need to unplug your nüvi and let the firmware/software update. You may even need to get to the map screen and let it load from there.
  • Once it's finished updating plug your nüvi back into your computer and go to your account at NavTones.com and install your voice.

    • * You will also need to have the Garmin Device Communicator Plugin before you can download available here.

How to change the voice on your Garmin

  • On your GPS device, touch Tools, then Settings.
  • Select Language.
  • Select Voice.
  • Choose your favorite voice and hit OK.
  • Make sure your volume is up and mute is off.

How do I find my TomTom device code?

  • Tap the right side of the blue bar that runs along the bottom of the navigation screen.
  • Tap the version button found in a white square on the right side of the Status Summary screen.
  • Your device code will be shown at the top of the screen.

Login to your account and go to 'My Downloadable Products' on the left-hand side of the screen. Make sure your device is plugged into your computer. Click on the download link to automatically install your voice to your device.

You may also use the manual installation option. When prompted be sure to SAVE the .zip file to a convenient location on your PC.

TomTom voices are delivered as a .zip file containing three files. All files have the same name but different file extensions. For example:

data99.chk - contains encrypted audio files
data99.vif - voice information file
data99.bmp - voice image

Just copy the three (unzipped) files to the 'voices' folder of your TomTom and you are ready to go!

* If the file names as delivered conflict with an existing voice on your device, you can change the file names as necessary, so long as they are all the same. You must also use any text editor (such as NotePad) to change the file name WITHIN the .vif file on the second line.

** All TomTom voices are locked to a single device. Installing voices with the incorrect encryption code may cause your device to cease functioning properly.

Garmin voices are installed directly to your Garmin device from your internet browser. You will need the Device Communicator plug-in (powered by Garmin) installed on your computer, and your compatible device to install your voices. Click here to get the Device Communicator plug-in.

**NOTE: Device Communicator is a one-time download which will allow you to easily install future voices from any Communicator-enabled website such as Navtones. All Navtones voices for Garmin function on a single device only.
